What to Eat with Carnitas Keto

5 Ketogenic Mexican Food Recipes

Mexican food is recognized worldwide for their excellent taste and the extravagance of their ingredients as it is one of the most popular foods. However, if you are on a low-carb, high-protein diet, you should not eat these types of foods as they are high in fat.

This is where the good part comes in: you can make a variety of Mexican dishes to suit the ketogenic diet, you just have to be more creative and willing to put these 5 ketogenic Mexican recipes into practice.

Pork carnitas is the ideal foundation for a delicious keto meal.

This pulled pork recipe will provide you with the perfect balance of fat, flavor, and spice you expect from a Mexican-inspired dish, whether you want to make a keto carnitas bowl, have keto-friendly taco night, or feed a crowd.

Just avoid the rice, tortillas, beans, and other starchy accompaniments that are typically served with carnitas. You're not going to miss them anyway!

Can You Eat Carnitas on a Ketogenic Diet?
Carnitas is a slow-cooked pulled pork dish from Mexico that is traditionally served with rice, beans, and tortillas. The pulled pork is very low in carbs and keto-friendly on its own, but its accompaniments are frequently high in net carbs.

Though carnitas pork is delicious on its own, we wanted to make every aspect of the dish keto. This way, you can enjoy carnitas tacos or a Chipotle-inspired carnitas bowl without sacrificing flavor.

Making the Best Keto Carnitas
You'll be able to make a delicious keto pork dish every time if you stick to the recipe exactly. However, there are a few pointers to remember if you want to improve the quality even more:

  • Take into account the quality of your meat. High-quality, pasture-raised pork is more nutrient-dense, healthier, and flavorful than conventionally raised pork. In addition, you will be promoting animal welfare and a cleaner environment.

  • The meat should be browned. Remember to sear your meat before cooking it and to broil it afterward. This is the key to unlocking a plethora of additional flavor.

  • Make use of the acid's elixir. Don't forget to top your carnitas with extra lime juice. The acid balances out the richness of the pork while also adding flavor.
  • Mix in some tangy sweetness. If you don't mind the extra net carbs, combine 12 to a whole orange with the other spices and herbs listed. Simply squeeze out the juice and toss in the orange slices before cooking.
  • If you want to keep carbs to a minimum, consider using only the orange zest.
Remember to include keto tortillas, toppings, and sides. Check out the following section for a list of keto-friendly recipes.

What to Serve with Keto Carnitas?
You now know how to make the perfect pork carnitas, but how do you turn that into a complete keto meal without increasing the carb count? Here are a few of my favorite low-carb dishes:

  • Make Low Carb Flax Tortillas or try these coconut flour keto tortillas for keto-friendly tacos. Fill them with carnitas pork and top with fresh salsa, pickled jalapenos, cilantro, and lime juice.

  • Lettuce wraps — To make a quick keto taco shell, simply use large romaine lettuce spears or butter lettuce leaves. I love how the freshness of these greens complements the richness of the carnitas.
  • Low-carb vegetables — Carnitas goes well with most vegetables. Use our list of keto-friendly vegetables to find the best options for you. Add them to tacos, serve as a side dish, or to your keto carnitas bowl.

  • Cauliflower rice — If you're missing rice, make some cauliflower rice. Serve it as a keto-friendly side dish or as the foundation for a carnitas bowl. Furthermore, it absorbs more of the flavorful cooking liquid that has been left over.
